Hometown Hideaway

Located in Buffalo County, Nebraska, Ravenna has a population of nearly 1300 people. Many enjoy their home life in Ravenna while working in larger communities such as Kearney, 40 miles to the southwest or Grand Island, 35 miles to the southeast. Nebraska highway 2 flows right by Ravenna's south door step at highway 68. Within the town itself you will find a grocery store, restaurants, a hardware store, a gas station, a flower store, realtors, bank, motel, ball fields, parks, swimming pool and a golf course.

The residents of Ravenna are proud and supportive of their community's school and its athletic teams. As well they should be! The girls volleyball team won the State C-2 championship in 2008 and the boys' basketball team has won seven C-2 State championships!

The community holds a three day long celebration in June called "ANNEVAR". Thursday kicks off the celebration with a prince/princess contest and later a teen dance with a pie baking contest and quilt show on Friday. Sand volleyball, antique tractor parade, an ice cream social and car show are just a few of the activities that will be taking place over the weekend.

The Moffett Place, a family farm located approximately five miles east of Ravenna, Nebraska on Nebraska Highway 2, has been added as a location offering camping, viewing and arts and crafts vendors for the total solar eclipse. The communities of Kearney and Ravenna have colloborated on a full weekend of events culminating with the total solar eclipse at 12:57:21 in Ravenna, Nebraska. Ravenna’s Hometown Eclipse Festival will consist of a presentation by active NASA Astronaut Mike Finke and NASA Engineer Renita Finke on Aug. 19, a 5K run/ sand volleyball tourney/ parade on Aug. 19, golf tournament and Cruise Night on Aug. 20, and vendors/ live entertainment 19, 20, 21 at the Ravenna baseball fields. Just outside of Ravenna to the East is a Buffalo County Park. There is a small lake for fishing and camping areas. Currently RV pads with electricity are being built in time for the solar eclipse this August 21, 2017. As you drive on Nebraska Highway 2, look for the Ravenna sign as well as a Buffalo County Park sign and turn in. Drive in about 1/4 of a mile and you will be at the park.
