Located in Grant County, Nebraska, Hyannis is the county seat and boasts a population of 182 citizens. Here you will find the Sandhill Oil company and the historic Hyannis Hotel. Also, the family run Dredlas grocery store is located just south of Nebraska Highway 2. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Grant County Museum is located in the Grant County Courthouse at 105 E. Harrison. The displays include John Wayne's saddle from the movie, "True Grit" and an extensive barb wire collection. Open Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 1 to 4 or by appointment by calling (308) 458-2371.
Outdoor Nebraska has created a fishing guide for the Sandhills region of Nebraska. Frye Lake is 243 acres and located just north of Hyannis. It offers an abundance of panfry fish and primitive camping.
Further north of Hyannis, approximately 30 miles is Steverson-Cottonwood Lake. 600 acres with a depth of up to 20 feet. The locals consider this the most beautiful camping area in the Sandhillls.
